Cacao has been revered for millennia as a superfood; in fact, the Mayans were so impressed with its energy-promoting abilities they had an entire festival devoted to the “cacao god”. Today, raw cacao is valued for its wide spectrum of phytonutrients, antioxidants, and its high iron and magnesium content. Raw cacao has more antioxidants than red wine, green tea, or blueberries, more than any other widely consumed food on the planet.
Maca powder is made from the root of the herbaceous maca plant native to the high Andes of Bolivia and Peru. Inca warriors used it in preparation for battles and arduous expeditions. Maca root is a nutrient-dense whole food, and it is packed with vitamins, plant sterols, many essential minerals, amino acids and healthy fats. It is a powerful and balanced food for athletes, it increases energy and endurance, reduces fatigue, and helps support the immune system.
Not only is this smoothie a nutritional powerhouse, but the taste is amazing. Cacao has a rich chocolate flavor and the maca adds sweet butterscotch tones, making this surprisingly delicious.
Drink one in the morning, as a late-afternoon snack, after a grueling workout, or anytime you need a boost of energy and vitality. Your body will love it!
